Privacy Policy for Bhasha
Last updated: 4 June 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Bhasha mobile application (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles your information. Bhasha is a personal language-learning project that teaches Indian languages (currently Telugu) through bite-sized lessons.
We believe in privacy by design. Bhasha is built to keep your data on your device.
We do not collect any personal information. Bhasha does not require an account, does not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any other identifier, and does not transmit any personal data from your device to our servers — we do not operate any servers.
The App does not include:
We do not know who you are. We do not know that you installed the App. We have no way to contact you unless you contact us first.
The App stores the following information locally on your device only, using the standard Android Shared Preferences (or iOS UserDefaults) system provided by your operating system:
This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted, backed up to any service we operate, or shared with anyone. If you uninstall the App, this data is removed.
You can reset all of this at any time via the Settings → Reset all progress option inside the App.
Bhasha uses your device’s built-in Text-to-Speech engine to pronounce Telugu words aloud during listening exercises. On Android, this is typically the Google Text-to-Speech service; on iOS it is Apple’s on-device speech synthesiser. The App sends the Telugu text to be pronounced (e.g. “నమస్తే”) to that system service via the standard operating-system API.
How that TTS engine handles the text — including whether it processes it on-device or sends it to a cloud service — is governed by your device manufacturer’s and your TTS engine provider’s privacy policy, not ours. We do not receive anything back from this process other than the spoken audio playing on your speaker.
You can change or disable your device’s TTS engine in your operating system’s accessibility settings.
Bhasha requests no special permissions beyond what is implicit in installing an Android or iOS app. In particular it does not request:
Bhasha is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Because we do not collect any personal information from any user, no separate child-data handling applies.
If you are a parent or guardian and have any concerns, please contact us.
The App is built on the Flutter framework (Google) and uses the following open-source packages, none of which transmit user data to their authors:
The first time the App runs, the google_fonts library may make a one-time network request to download the Nunito typeface. Once cached, no further requests are made.
We do not share any user information with any third party because we do not collect any.
Because Bhasha keeps everything on your device, the security of that data is the same as the security of your device. We recommend keeping your device updated and using a screen lock.
We do not transfer any user data internationally because we do not collect any user data.
Since we do not collect or store any personal information, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete. You retain full control over the local data inside the App via the Reset all progress option.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the “Last updated” date at the top of this document will change. We encourage you to review this policy occasionally.
If we ever change the App to begin collecting personal information, we will publish a clear notice in the App itself before the change takes effect, and update this policy to reflect what is collected and why.
